If you're new to kidding, or just wanting to get some more experience by
seeing more kiddings of various types, pull up a seat and follow along! :)
This is Better Wayz U Mocha Me Happy, when she kidded at 2 years old as a 2nd freshener.
There is a lot bad advice out there folks!
One that seems to continue to persist is the whole "start the timer at 30 minutes when they start pushing" (and pull the kid if
its still not out by then)... NO, that's terrible advice!!! Not every kidding goes quickly! Some can take hours. There is no need to
rush anything. Relax, don't panic and give the doe the time she needs!
This one ended up taking right at around an hour from when she first started really all out pushing, it can take longer! And if they have
multiple kids, there can be a LOT of time between kids. Its all normal. Way too many people panic and think they need to assist. More often than
not, its just making things worse and/or adding risk or complications where none of it was even really needed.
I have her hour long pushing of this single kid broken down into
three one minute video "shorts". Be sure to listen along because I give lots of helpful tips
and advice in each video short. :) Main message - Relax and give it time!!!
Mocha's Huge Single - Part 1 (44 seconds long)
Mocha's Huge Single - Part 2 (47 seconds long)
Mocha's Huge Single - Part 3 (58 seconds long)
So the take away... each kidding is different, you can't set a timer from first push and expect it to go on a defined schedule. That just isn't how birthing
works. :) Kiddings can take many hours... I've had about 2000 kids born here so far so I've seen my fair share of different kinds of kiddings. The longest I've
had BETWEEN kids is 6 hours. I actually had thought the doe was done - she had already had three and acted completely done. Six hours later I happened to be in the
barn and she started pushing again! ha. Pushed out another healthy kid. I know other people that have had a doe kid a healthy kid even 24 hours later than the first
kid(s)! Don't rush 'em!!!! ;)
